A while back, when reading Isaiah 59:19, I heard something new from the Holy Spirit about promises. The verse says, “When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him” (NKJV).

We already stand on promises and we pray them in. This is not new to us, but the new thing? Instead of focusing on the bad circumstances, the flood, we are to focus on the coming promise. Instead of dwelling on the negatives in our prodigals’ lives, we rejoice in God’s lifted standard, His claim on their souls. Instead of thinking of the promise of God’s lifting a standard against the enemy as something He will do in the future, we should realize and focus on the fact that He has already staked a claim for them. It is already done, already in play!

In fact, we should look at the flood as evidence of victory, evidence that the Lord has claimed them as His own and has drawn a line the devil cannot cross!
