Testimony of a Neighbor’s Salvation from Caren B.

I have a remarkable story to tell you.

[My neighbor] moved in next to us some 15 years ago. He was retired after working in Denver as a cop for 35 years. [He] was cynical, hardhearted, a drinker. His children abandoned him. They were never around all that time.

He started the long slide from aging and being alone. I talked to him about God. He held up his hand and said he wanted nothing to do with God.

I backed off and just developed a friendship with him. His friends all died. I asked if he wanted to talk to a [minister]. He said no.

Then he was to have a colonoscopy, which we were taking him to, and he asked for prayer. He was scared of dying, [and] he had become completely deaf.

(Holy Spirit had made me aware that I’d better get on ministering to [my neighbor] — you’re living next to him for a reason —  and I was watching for an opportunity. Also, I had an awareness that his mother had prayed for him for years.)

A prodigal for decades,” he “got saved about 6 months ago. I called him and offered to pray. He read the captions on his home phone. The Lord had me lead him in a simple sinner’s prayer. He prayed after me.

[Later], my husband picked him up at the doctor and [he] showed him a medallion that he had in his pocket. It had the exact same words that I prayed with him. Someone had planted a seed! I harvested for the Lord.

[He] became a different man. He reconciled with his family. Even went for some holiday celebrations.

However, recently [he] had a disastrous fall in his home, lying on the floor for 5 or 6 days until another neighbor heard him yell. He went to a nursing home with many broken bones. His daughters took care of him!

He was transferred to another facility. He passed after a few days there … a few days ago, peacefully, in his sleep. Praise God.

[He] is in Heaven. Jesus saved him, a prodigal son who came home.

Alleluia. It is marvelous to me that God used me for my neighbor in the middle of my suffering over my children becoming prodigals.

God is so good.
