Encouragement for The Canceled

God gave me these words for a mom whose addicted son just blocked her on his phone, breaking her last physical means of knowing he is alive, but you may need to hear these words, too. She gave her permission to share.

I wrote:

I was just praying for you, and I felt like I needed to encourage you. You didn’t choose or cause the isolation, and you are not without effect in [your son’s] life. You may not be in his day-to-day physically, but you are in his day-to-day spiritually, fighting through prayer, and that is powerful.

You may not be with him, but God won’t leave him.

He may not want to hear your voice, but God is teaching him; Psalm 25:8 says, “Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way” (NKJV).

[Your son] can block you, but he can’t block God. Every wall the enemy erects against God and godly influence will not succeed; there isn’t a wall that can keep God out, because He promised to never leave [him].

You can’t deliver [your son] from addiction, but God can. You can’t save him, but God can, no matter the circumstances.

I know you miss your son, your real son. I would say to you to hang tight “and see the salvation of the Lord” (Exodus 14:13).
