Prove Them Wrong, Lord

Have you heard your prodigal proudly say things they believe that you know are wrong, things the Bible says are wrong, ideas you know are lies from Satan, beliefs you know are against the God Of Truth, things opposite of the truth you or others taught them?

No matter what you say, or how eloquently you speak, or how well you formulate your rebuttal, they simply won’t believe truth. Then, you realize their ears are closed to real truth (Isaiah 35:5; Matthew 13:15). We do pray that God will open their ears to really hear truth, and I believe He is answering that request.

There are two ways they will know the truth. The first is one is through Him: “Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way” (Psalm 25:8). The second is through people: “For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:13-14 NKJV).

So, we pray for God to open their ears and prove to them the wrongness of their beliefs regarding God and His Word.

PRAYER:

Our Father, we pray You will prove the truth to our prodigals, prove to them the wrongness of the things they are saying and the way they are living.

We pray that when they believe You don’t exist, prove to them that You are I AM and reveal Yourself to them through the things You created (Romans 1:20).

We pray that when they believe You are against them, prove to them that You are for them (Romans 8:31).

We pray that when they believe they are irreparably broken, prove to them that You will remake them into something beautiful and useful (Jeremiah 18:4).

We pray that when they feel they will be forever bound to their sin, prove Your power over gates of brass, bars of iron, and chains, and free them (Psalm 107:10-16; Isaiah 45:2).

We pray that when they feel they are wise, prove to them that “[t]he fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10 KJV).

When they say, “‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and [they] do not know that [they] are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— … counsel [them] to buy from [You] gold refined in the fire, that [they] may be rich; and white garments, that [they] may be clothed, that the shame of [their] nakedness may not be revealed; and” that they will “anoint [their] eyes with eye salve, that [they] may see” (Revelation 3:17-18 NKJV).

We pray that when they believe their identity is gamer, drinker, addict, player of the field, too smart to believe, second class citizen, or in the LGBTQ+ lifestyles, show them their true identity is child of God (John 1:12), free (Psalm 107:10-16; Isaiah 45:2), “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14), children of light (Ephesians 5:8), “man of God” (1 Timothy 6:11), the head and not the tail (Deuteronomy 28:13, 44), created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and so many other wonderful things You say about us and our relationship with You.

In Jesus’ name we pray.

Many verses in the Bible tell us our true identity and truth. You may only see one prayer point that pertains to your prodigal, but you know the other prayer points all too well. Then again, you may see several prayer points for asking God to prove your prodigal wrong. He will open their ears to hear Himself and others, and He will prove truth in a loving way, through the filter of His great and perfect love for them.

Julie, while I am glad to hear from you again, I am so sorry to hear reconciliation has not yet happened. When I read your message to me, I immediately thought of how just this morning I was thinking of how we are to remember we are fighting “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” and not “against flesh and blood” (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV). I was thinking about how most circumstances with prodigals are not personal, although it seems more personal than anything we’ve ever experienced. It is truly a spiritual battle with the enemy of our souls. He is the one attacking and not our loved ones.

Words of wisdom? Trust that even when it doesn’t look like it, God is hearing AND answering your prayers for your daughter and your relationship with her and your precious grandbaby. Remember God wants her restoration with Himself and your family more than you do, and trust that He is hearing your prayers, spoken aloud and heart-spoken. That is what He promised in His Word (Psalm 34:17). Even when it looks like nothing is changing or that things are getting worse, He is working. That is when “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

I find praise and gratitude help the most when my mind doesn’t go there naturally. They immediately remind us of miracles God has already worked in our lives and of who God is, what He will and will not do. He is Jehovah Shammah, The Lord Is There, and your daughter cannot escape His presence and His work in her life (Psalm 139:7-12). He is God Of My Salvation, drawing her when no other Christian is there to be salt and light. He is Healer and Protector, and all of that is filtered through His great love for her and you and accomplished because He is El Shaddai, Almighty, All-Sufficient God.

Julie, I will pray for you that your Christmas is saturated with joy in anticipation that your daughter can and will be saved and that your relationship will be restored. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

In fact, I just prayed for you and will again. I hope this has been helpful.

    Trusting God for your daughter,

    Tami
