Have you ever seen a bird puff out its chest or neck to try to intimidate you or another who they deem as a threat, especially where their young are concerned?
Where we live, we have killdeer, birds who lay their eggs on the ground, and whenever someone nears their nests, the bird will either fly or run away from the nest while making loud noises. If the threat draws even closer to the nest, they will spread out one wing, twist it, and scream like they are hurt, trying to draw a potential predator away from their eggs to a seemingly easier prey, an injured mama bird.
Satan knows he is a defeated foe without a chance of winning in a head-to-head with the Lord, much like that little killdeer against a person or a predator, but he will still puff out his chest, stretch out his neck, and make a lot of noise in the form of lies in an attempt to win a battle against God’s plans. He tries to make people believe he is actually a contender in the battle; as strong as God or stronger; or knows more, has better plans, or things are better in league with him. He is a liar.
But God.
Jude 1:6 says: “And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day” (NKJV). Satan may puff out his chest and try to make himself seem powerful and huge, but he is a fallen angel, and the Lord only allows him to go so far. He is presently “in everlasting chains.”
When we know the character and power of Jehovah, we know Satan will not, cannot win!
Recently, a list of ways the Lord outdoes Satan just flowed in preparation for our June 23rd live prayer time on Facebook. This led me to look for other ways the Lord overcomes and outdoes the enemy. Here’s what I found.
OVER
HE OVERCOMES:
- “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
- “These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 27:14).
- Jesus said, “I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne” (Revelation 3:21).
- “And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:5).
HE OVERTHROWS:
- “And in the greatness of Your excellence You have overthrown those who rose against You; You sent forth Your wrath; It consumed them like stubble” (Exodus 15:7).
- “‘God has power to help and to overthrow’” (2 Chronicles 25:8).
HE OVERPOWERS:
- “God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God” (Psalm 62:11).
- “[Y]our faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV).
OUT
This list goes quickly, but each one is powerful:
- Outbid, since Jesus paid for our redemption in full at Calvary.
- Outdistances inherently because He is omnipresent, and Satan is not.
- Out-exists because He is Jehovah, The LORD, the self-existent One.
- Outreaches. He always thoroughly exists in His mighty expanse infinitely and is Jehovah Shammah, The LORD Is There.
- Outlasts naturally because He is El Olam, God Everlasting; and He inhabits eternity (Isaiah 57:15).
- Outranks because He is El Elyon, God Most High.
- Outreigns as King of kings, with His name being El Elyon, God Most High.
- Outnumbers Satan three to one as Father, Son, and Holy Ghost as well as in being the all-encompassing One compared to a thoroughly inferior one. Also, the armies of Jehovah Sabaoth, The LORD Of Hosts, the Commander of the armies of heaven, outnumbers Satan’s army two to one!
- Outsmarts, because He is all-knowing and all-wise.
- Outwits as the One who is Counselor (Isaiah 9:6).
- Outfights because He is Jehovah Nissi, The LORD Our Banner, contending with the enemy for souls and claiming territory the enemy cannot take away.
- Outmaneuvers as all-wise God, “‘who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens’” (Revelation 3:7).
- Out-protects as the ultimate Shield and Defender.
- Out-provides because He is Jehovah Jireh, The LORD Our Provider.
- Out-saves inherently as Elohay Yishi, God Of My Salvation; and as Savior and Redeemer.
- Outsees since He is El Roi, The God Who Sees Me.
- Outshines as the Light that “shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it” (John 1:5).
- Outdoes in every way.
- Outsays. All of the above actions are all ultimate, but this one is so final: He is THE Amen, THE final say, and He IS The Word.
There are countless other ways in which the Lord out-contends with Satan and overwhelms, overcomes, and outranks him. We are never alone ever in this battle for the salvation of our prodigals nor in any other part of our lives. God who is always with us and our prodigals in everything has the final say about anything that comes against the fulfillment of His promises to us.
Deuteronomy 3:24 says: “‘O Lord GOD, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds?’” (emphasis added).
“O LORD God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?” (2 Chronicles 20:6).
Over and out! (Drop mic!)
