Every morning on the way to work a woman walked past a pet store. One particular morning, a parrot sat in its cage by the shop’s door. As she passed by, the parrot said, “Baaak! You’re ugly.” She brushed it off as crude and rude, as a joke the owner was playing to draw attention to his pet store.

However, the next day as she passed, it said the same thing: “Baaak! You’re ugly.” The next day the same thing, and the next, until the day she had enough. She walked into the pet store and confronted the owner, telling him the next time the parrot said such a thing to her, she would cause him trouble.

The next few days, the parrot wasn’t outside, and the woman felt assured the problem was solved.

Then came the day when she approached the store and saw the parrot was outside again. This time when she passed, it simply said, “You know!”

This fictional parrot repeated the same thing over to this fictional woman so often that all it had to do to remind her of what he was thinking was to say, “You know.”

We’ve read the good things the Lord has written in His Word and heard all the promises He’s given to us personally about our prodigals, reminding us so often we can quote them, but sometimes circumstances result in our needing to be reminded once again that we know.

Joshua said to the children of Israel in Joshua 23:14: “And you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one word of them has failed” (Joshua 23:14 NKJV, emphasis added).

It’s true for us and for our prodigals! Not one thing has failed, and neither will our Lord ever fail!

So, let me remind you: “You know!”
